Our local artist of the moment

This month we are delighted to announce a collaboration with Catherine Fenton, a truly international artist whose work is exhibited around the world and whose practice is rooted in curiosity, community and sustainability.

Catherine introduces herself below, in her own words.

“I grew up surrounded by artists in Mijas, Spain and as my parents loved art, would frequently visit their studios and go to Private Views as a child. I learnt so much from them and although self-taught, have been part of a community of artists, constantly learning, ever since. I started exhibiting commercially in London in 1996, selling work to New Zealand, London, Spain, Switzerland and Holland. I took a break when my children were little and began painting again in earnest in 2015 and have continued developing my practice since then, curating exhibitions and joining the advisory board and Green Team of arts organisation ArtCan. Now living in Madrid, I have kept my art connections with London and am enjoying developing new relationships with galleries and buyers here in Spain.”

“Crecí rodeada de artistas en Mijas, España, y como a mis padres les encantaba el arte, de niña les acompañaba con frecuencia en visitas a los estudios de artistas y a las inauguraciones de sus exposiciones. Aprendí mucho de los artistas y, aunque soy autodidacta, he sido parte de una comunidad de artistas, aprendiendo constantemente, desde aquel entonces. Comencé a exponer comercialmente en Londres en 1996, vendiendo obras a Nueva Zelanda, Londres, España, Suiza y Holanda. Me tomé un descanso cuando mis hijos eran pequeños y comencé a pintar de nuevo en serio en 2015 y he seguido desarrollando mi práctica desde entonces, comisariando exposiciones y uniéndome al consejo asesor y al Equipo Verde de la organización artística ArtCan. Ahora que vivo en Madrid es un placer buscar nuevas relaciones con galerías y compradores aquí en España, mientras que he mantenido mis conexiones artísticas con Londres.”
